Keith Wyness can’t believe Celtic could accept ‘£25m’ Carter-Vickers bid

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Celtic have “no need” to sell Cameron Carter-Vickers in the January transfer window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted a fee of around £20-25million would be “relatively cheap” for the 27-year-old.

Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph posted on X on Wednesday (1 January), claiming Bayer Leverkusen are interested in Carter-Vickers.

He claimed the United States international is “very happy and settled in Scotland” despite the interest from Xabi Alonso’s side.

Carter-Vickers joined Celtic on an initial loan from Tottenham in 2021 which became permanent a year later.

He has made 134 appearances for the Hoops and is under contract at Parkhead until May 2029.

Celtic should not ‘cash in’ on Carter-Vickers, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The numbers floating around are £20-25million, and I think he’s worth it.

“But Celtic have no need to sell him in January, they’ve got money in the bank.

“The only reason would be if he’s running out of contract.

“£20-25m is relatively cheap for a high-quality centre-back. I don’t think there’s any need to sell, and they’re still in the Champions League.

“I think it would be a bad move to cash in.

“I’d rather see them try and negotiate a better deal in the summer, or even tie him down to a longer contract.”
