Keith Wyness can’t believe Graham Potter could now replace Clement at Rangers

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Graham Potter will want to manage in the Premier League again instead of taking charge at Rangers.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Gers should stick with Philippe Clement and “work on bigger things at board level”.

Speaking to Football Insider last week (25 October), ex-England international Paul Robinson claimed Potter would be tempted by the Rangers job should they choose to part ways with Clement.

The Belgian is now nine points adrift of joint-leaders Celtic and Aberdeen at the sharp end of the Scottish Premiership.

Meanwhile, Potter is out of work after leaving Chelsea last year (2023) following a short-lived reign at Stamford Bridge.

Rangers told to stick with Clement despite poor start

Wyness claimed a deal for the English boss may not be viable with Rangers “under pressure financially”.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Potter will be thinking that he wants to hang out for another chance in the Premier League.

“Paying off Clement and hiring Potter, in any case, would be expensive.

“Rangers are under pressure financially.

“I would still say – and I’m sticking to this – that Rangers need to keep Clement and work on bigger things at board level.

“They need to work on the structure of the club strategically.”
