Keith Wyness drops ‘exciting’ verdict on John Textor takeover at Watford
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted John Textor buying in at Watford could bring some much-needed change from the Pozzos’ reign.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the new investment could be “exciting” and bring more stability to the second-tier outfit.
The Sun reported on 4 November that Textor is eyeing a shock move for Watford if he sells his stake in Crystal Palace.
It is claimed the US investor has held “preliminary talks” about using shares in his investment company Eagle Football to buy into Watford – with the Championship side valued at between £150-175million by current owner Gino Pozzo
Textor, 59, also owns French giants Lyon, Brazilian league leaders Botafogo and Belgium’s RWD Molenbeek.
Textor could be a success at Watford, says Wyness
Wyness insisted the American is now a “football man” after “hard knocks” in the start of his ownership journey.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think it would be exciting.
“They’ve had, to put it lightly, a lot of change with the current ownership.
“They’ve had a lot of managers who have only had a very short time, but the Pozzos have been reasonable in terms of looking after the club financially.
“So I think it’s time for a bit more stability. Having Textor in with his other football assets could be positive.

“I’ve no doubt that he’s a football man now. He’s had hard knocks, some tough situations in Brazil and with Palace.
“He’s learning his trade as a football owner.”
