Keith Wyness drops Rangers transfer claim after £25m signing plan revealed
Rangers are set for a big few months as the 49ers Enterprises-backed takeover edges closer and they decide on their next manager.
Barry Ferguson has propelled himself into contention following the recent victories over Celtic and Fenerbahce.
Football Insider revealed on 27 March Rangers are plotting a stunning move for Marco Rose to become the club’s next manager as he’s under pressure at RB Leipzig.
Prospective owner 49ers Enterprises has strong connections with Red Bull, which also has a significant investment in Leeds United.
The financial situation at Ibrox has been firmly in the spotlight over the past few months following the club’s heavy losses.
Rangers posted a record-breaking revenue in 2023-24 after their turnover increased from £83.8million to a record-breaking £88.3million, but their net losses surged by £4.1million to £17.2million.
Football Insider revealed on 21 March Rangers could have a £25million transfer budget to strengthen their squad this summer.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Patrick Stewart should keep his power dry in preparation for a bigger revamp next summer.
Stewart is looking to improve Rangers on and off the pitch after joining the club as chief executive in December.

Rangers chief to fix Ibrox issues before green-lighting spending spree
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Rangers need to sort out various issues around the club before spending big in the transfer market.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think they’re going to be splashing everything this summer until you’ve got the right manager.
“The whole club needs to be sorted out in terms of Murray Park, the academy and the recruitment globally. There is a lot of work to be done.
“Then I think you’re going to start to see some money spent probably for the following summer.
“I think there’ll definitely be some money spent to fix some holes and some gaps, but it’s getting that management team in place and the right structure at the top.
“Patrick Stewart has got to lead that now.
“I think he would be keeping some powder dry for a bigger revamp the following summer if I’m right in the way I would approach it anyway.”
