Keith Wyness drops verdict on Aston Villa terminating Harvey Elliott deal

Aston Villa could be owed money by Liverpool if Harvey Elliott’s loan is terminated in the January transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, on the predicament concerning Elliott’s short-term future.

Liverpool could recall Elliott from his loan at Aston Villa due to the 22-year-old not being part of Unai Emery’s plans.

Elliott would not be able to go out on loan again this season if recalled by Liverpool, due to having already played for two clubs this campaign.

Aston Villa could be due ‘share’ of Harvey Elliott’s wages

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Aston Villa will not trigger the appearance clause that would make Elliott’s move to the club permanent.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Aston Villa may be able to recoup some funds if the deal is terminated.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast:  “Well, I haven’t seen the contract obviously, for Harvey Elliott, or the loan contract, and it seems very clear that Villa are not going to activate the 10 games to actually make his move permanent.

“So there would have been a share of his wages that Villa were paying, and so, if that was contracted till the end of the season, and I believe it was supposed to be a season-long loan.

Then they would probably be due half a season of the share of his wages that they were going to pay. I don’t think that’ll be that significant for them to be able to do that.”

Aston Villa braced for January offers for duo

Aston Villa could allow Ross Barkley to depart the club, in a move to generate funds to make new signings.

Emery though may be concerned about Barcelona’s interest in Pau Torres, with Aston Villa keen not to let the defender leave.

Torres is seen as a key part of Emery’s plans, and the club will not want to weaken their squad amid a push to qualify for Champions League football next season.
