Keith Wyness drops verdict on Evan Ferguson ‘turning up’ at Everton ahead of January

Evan Ferguson is not the striker to solve Everton’s problems in front of goal if he becomes available for a move in the January transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Ferguson has not shown the form that warrants a move to the Merseyside club.

Ferguson is on loan at Roma from Brighton, but the deal may be terminated in January amid the Ireland striker’s struggles at the Italian club.

Roma and Everton could be talking about Ferguson as the two clubs are both owned by The Friedkin Group.

Everton warned of Evan Ferguson deal

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks David Moyes will target an “experienced striker” in the transfer market.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness would be “surprised” if Everton signed Ferguson.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now, I know that Moyes has shown some admiration for him before, but he seems to me like one of those players that started off very well that just hasn’t gone on.

“I know he had a spell of injury, but he hasn’t really cracked on since then. He’s certainly not the solution I don’t think that Everton are looking for up front. So I’d be very surprised to see him turn up at Everton. Very surprised indeed.

“People have said, you know, he’s always been one of those that could be, but we’ve got Thierno Barry and I expect Moyes to go for a more experienced striker along with Barry coming, going forward and Beto as well.

“So I don’t see Evan Ferguson coming to Everton. Just the form he’s shown in the last two seasons, to me just doesn’t warrant it.”

Dwight McNeil update emerges at Everton

Everton may not allow Dwight McNeil to leave the club in January, despite the 26-year-old struggling for game time this season.

Moyes is without Iliman Ndiaye due to the African Cup of Nations and Kiernan Dewsbury Hall is unavailable due to injury.

McNeil, who is wanted by Wolves, may only be allowed to depart Everton once either of those two players have returned to action.
