Keith Wyness: Everton could deploy new formation as latest signing arrives

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed Sean Dyche is determined to show a “more attacking” side in his third season in charge.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the arrival of new signing Jake O’Brien could mean Dyche changes to a three-man defence.

Everton confirmed the capture of O’Brien on Tuesday (30 July) – with the 23-year-old signing a four-year deal on Merseyside.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday (28 July) that the Merseysiders have signed the defender to play alongside Jarrad Branthwaite – and not to replace him.

Dyche’s side have also landed permanent deals for Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam this summer – while Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison have joined on loan.

Dyche ‘determined’ to create ‘more attacking’ Everton, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “O’Brien gives you the chance to play three at the back.

“We’ll see what sort of formation Dyche favours.

“He’s done a lot of work and he’s determined to create a different, more attacking feeling in the team this year.

“I think he wants to hit the ground running and try and get us into mid-table.

“With the send-off at Goodison and the excitement building for the new stadium, it’s going to be very special.

“It’s a big, big season for Everton with lots of publicity coming. Some of these nights will be very emotional, and there will be a lot of pressure on this squad.”
