Keith Wyness: Everton have one unbelievable player, the rest are just not delivering

Everton had a superb start to the season under David Moyes but their form has fallen off over the last couple of months.

The Toffees won two of their first three Premier League games of the campaign, with the likes of Jack Grealish in brilliant form.

However, Everton’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Monday (3 November) evening was their third league game without a win.

Moyes‘ side have dropped down to 14th in the Premier League table and need to rediscover their spark from earlier in the season.

Everton struggling to stay consistent

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that his old side are struggling to stay consistent.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the Toffees are not sustaining a high level of play across a full 90 minutes.

Everton were brilliant in the first half hour against Sunderland, with Iliman Ndiaye giving them the lead, but then fell away as the Black Cats took control.

Wyness added that Moyes summed up the performance in his post-match interview, questioning why his side couldn’t replicate the first 30 minutes for the full game.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Moyes’ interview afterwards summed it up, where was that team that was there in the first 30 minutes?

“They disappeared for the rest of the game, and Moyes said that they’ve got to keep a more sustained high quality as they did in that 30 minutes, but for longer periods.

“There’s no doubt that there is some great skill with Ndiaye and some superb quality in the team, but they’re just not putting it together for sustained spells. So that’s the issue for Everton, getting consistency over a longer period of time.”

Everton keeping tabs on surprising striker option

Meanwhile, Everton are keeping close tabs on Bayern Munich’s on-loan Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, sources have told Football Insider.

Sources say Bayern are increasingly unlikely to trigger their £70million option to sign the 24-year-old permanently and could allow him to return to Stamford Bridge.

That is despite Bayern holding talks with Chelsea over Jackson in an attempt to negotiate a lower fee to bring the striker to Munich on a permanent basis.

As a result, Everton have now joined the race, with the Senegal international seen as a “Moyes-type” striker with the physicality and movement to lead the line.
