Keith Wyness: Everton points deduction news is ‘imminent’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed news on a potential new Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) hearing should come before the new year.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted he feels the Toffees can resolve the situation without being hit with a new points deduction.
Everton could face a possible third points penalty after being hit with two deductions worth two and six points in the 2023-24 campaign.
Premier League chiefs claim £6.5million, which was attributed to new stadium interest payments by club chiefs, should be added to the spending for the 2022-23 campaign and mean the club incur a further deduction under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Sean Dyche’s side have started with 10 points from a possible 33 and sit 16th in the Premier League table.
Everton should learn points deduction fate before the new year, says Wyness
Wyness claimed the hearing should be wrapped up “relatively quickly” once it gets underway.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I was very surprised from the start that they parked this separately from the last hearing.
“It’s a technical issue about whether interest accrued against payments on the stadium.
“I don’t know why this can’t be solved outside of a hearing, because it’s a technical accounting procedure.
“I’d have expected to have a date already, and I think we’ll get that imminently.
“If not, it’ll be early in the new year.
“The backstop for points deductions and outstanding hearings is 24 May next year – this should be done and dusted way before that.
“I’m hoping it can be done relatively quickly.

“I don’t believe this will end in a points deduction. This is the auditors against the Premier League, and it may be about educating the judges about the facts of the case.
“I’m not party to the detail, but I tend to think this can be resolved without a points deduction.”
