Keith Wyness: Everton’s January transfer priority revealed after ‘hint’ dropped

David Moyes is likely to be backed at Everton in the January transfer window to help the club’s progression.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who has named the area Everton may be looking to strengthen.

Everton’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest sees the Toffees sit just two points off the Champions League places, after finishing 13th last season.

Moyes returned to Everton for a second spell as manager in January, and the club have since moved into their new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton will have ‘some money to spend’ in January

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes the full-back area will be one Moyes will be looking to address.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks a new forward could also be targeted.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think they will back him. That’s what’s been hinted at already, that there will be some money to spend.

I think they’ve trusted Moyes and they’ve seen rewards so far, and they’ve seen things certainly improve and move forward. It’s never easy moving into a new stadium, as we all know, but he seems to have settled things down.

There’s been a few ups and downs, but still overall there’s been progress. Now, where are they going to spend? We know full backs are probably going to be an issue.

And it’s funny how this forward situation, we’ve been talking for weeks and weeks and weeks about having forwards, and now it seems the [Thierno] Barry and Beto combination, treating them as one striker, seems to be suddenly bearing fruit and Barry getting his first goal. But without getting overly excited about that, I think there’s still potential for somebody to come in with experience up front and add some other option for him.”

Major Jack Grealish update emerges

In a major boost for Moyes, Jack Grealish wants his long-term future to be at Everton when his loan spell expires at the end of the season.

Everton could agree a £30million deal with Man City to sign Grealish, who has contributed two goals and four assists this campaign.

The 30-year-old was frozen out of Pep Guardiola’s plans at the Etihad, and is not expected to play for Man City again.
