Keith Wyness: Exodus of Everton star players is on the cards – ‘there’s no doubt’

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness believes the club will have no choice but to sell multiple star players this summer if they are relegated to the Championship.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – explained that the drop in broadcasting revenue in the Championship would force Everton to reshape their squad.

Sean Dyche’s side currently sit 16th in the Premier League table – five points clear of the relegation zone.

However, the Merseyside club could face another points deduction having been charged with a second breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Everton are set to hear the verdict from their second charge before the end of the season and a late points deduction could plunge them into a relegation battle.

‘Everton will be forced into summer firesale if relegated

Wyness drew on experiences from his time as Aston Villa CEO and revealed that the club faced new “financial realities” when they suffered relegation.

There’s no doubt that there will be some significant departures if Everton are relegated,” Wyness told Football Insider.

I have been involved at Villa when they’ve been relegated and there are financial realities that mean you have to look at that.

The whole drop in broadcasting revenue despite the parachute payments means that there is a different reality that you have to face in terms of the playing squad you can put forward.

So I think there’s probably no doubt if relegation did come about then I think there would be some departures.
