Keith Wyness issues ‘fiery’ Green Brigade update ahead of Celtic AGM

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he is “not expecting fireworks” as Celtic prepare to hold their annual general meeting this week.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted “serious issues” will be raised about spending, pyrotechnics and the Green Brigade, but expects the event to “go off pretty well”.

Celtic will hold their AGM at Parkhead on Friday (22 November) at 11:30am with manager Brendan Rodgers expected to attend.

Rodgers and club chiefs will field questions from fans about the present and future of the club on and off the pitch.

Celtic earned a new club-record revenue of £124.6million for the 2023-24 campaign, up from £119.9million in the previous year – and also banked a profit of £13.3million.

There could be tough questions for the club about the Green Brigade, Celtic’s ultras group who have been at the centre of controversies in recent months.

Celtic AGM not expected to throw up any issues, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “11:30 on Friday is the classic AGM.

“There’s normally a question about the quality of the pies served, which is the kind of thing you come to expect from an AGM.

“But there’ll also be some serious issues raised about spending after their Champions League form.

“There are also serious issues with the Green Brigade, who are the Celtic ultras fanbase, and pyrotechnics.

“Overall, I think it will go off pretty well.

“The club are top of the table and doing well in Europe. This should be one of the less fiery Celtic AGMs.

“Although pyrotechnics will be mentioned, I’m not expecting fireworks.”
