Keith Wyness: Leicester City facing two points deductions ‘just like Everton’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has told Leicester City to “suck it up” amid reports they face two points deductions in the 2024-25 campaign.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Foxes are likely to fail with any appeals against the sanctions.

The Sun reported on Saturday (17 August) that Leicester are facing two separate points deductions for breaking spending rules in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

The Midlands club were originally charged in March and responded to the charges by launching a legal challenge against the Premier League.

On the pitch, Leicester have returned to the Premier League after winning last season’s Championship title.

Leicester to lose appeals with two points deductions coming, says Wyness

Wyness suggested the Foxes will be hit with the punishment in the middle of this season.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “This will come out this season, it’ll be similar to the timetable Everton had last term.

“It’ll probably come right in the middle of what will be a relegation battle for Leicester.

“I’ve mentioned Steve Cooper is the right person to handle this kind of situation, but I don’t think the club have helped themselves with the way they’ve been aggressive in reaction to these charges.

“This may go against them in any appeal because they’ve been quite outspoken, and I don’t expect them to win any appeal.

“If it is to be two deductions, they’re going to have to just suck it up.

“They’ve got to make a quick start and keep going strong to make up for that in the future.”
