Keith Wyness: Leicester to land ‘extra’ points deduction in new bombshell
Leicester City may have made an error in appealing against their six-point deduction for breaching financial rules.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Leicester will now be deducted an extra point.
Leicester were charged in May 2025 for allegedly breaching the English Football League’s financial rules during their 2023-24 promotion winning season to the Premier League.
The Foxes were hit with the six-point deduction at the start of February, which dropped them from 17th to 20th in the Championship table.

Leicester should have been ‘better advised’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Leicester should not have appealed the six-point deduction.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the club may also experience an “issue” with costs.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think they would have been better advised to just go home and accept the punishment. I do think they’re going to get an extra point.
“I think they’re going to end up with seven points. And I think that’s what the problem is that they should have just taken those six.
“But look, Nick De Marco, I think is still representing Leicester in this battle. He’s had great success in these sorts of things before. Obviously, it’s been on legal advice that they’ve decided to appeal. So we’ll have to see how that plays out for them.
“But from all I’ve been able to read and glean on this, and I’ve got into the situation pretty deeply, I would say that they could expect to get an extra point for the breach in filing their accounts late. So they could end up with seven points rather than six. And also then costs become an issue in terms of those sorts of decisions as well.”

Wait for first win continues for Gary Rowett
Leicester have since fallen into the Championship relegation zone since the six-point deduction was imposed on them.
The Foxes are winless in eight Championship games and are a point from safety, with new manager Gary Rowett having drawn his first two matches in charge.
A first home game in charge against Norwich City awaits Rowett next, with the Canaries just five points ahead in the table.
