Keith Wyness: Liverpool have just agreed to sign ‘very exciting’ player who will transform the team
Jeremy Jacquet could be the start of Liverpool’s summer rebuild after Arne Slot’s side failed Premier League title defence.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Liverpool signed Jacquet for £60million in the January window.
Jacquet will remain at Rennes for the rest of the season to continue his development, although the 20-year-old picked up a shoulder injury after finalising his deal to Liverpool.
Chelsea were also pursuing a deal for Jacquet, but the Frenchman chose to move to Anfield, with Ibrahima Konate set to leave the club.
Liverpool ‘have done the right thing’ with Jeremy Jacquet
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Jacquet made the “right decision” choosing Liverpool over Chelsea.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Jacquet is a long-term solution for the Reds.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “He’s a very exciting talent, I’ve got to say, and I do think for him, it was the right decision to come to Liverpool.
“I think he’s going to get a lot more minutes, a lot more playing time and I think he can become a star of the future and I think it was right to go to Liverpool rather than Chelsea.
“For all those factors, I think Liverpool have done the right thing. We know the whole Marc Guehi thing as well in the summer, but I think Jacquet is the right solution for them longer term and I think they’ll be happy to go through the rest of the season.
“If they start to hit a little bit of form, and they stabilise around fourth or fifth in the Premier League, then that will be a good enough season for them right now from where they are and what they’ve been through, but I think Jacquet will be welcomed, and it will be a great fresh new player for them in the summer so good luck to him.”

Arne Slot sack pressure continues
Arne Slot’s future at Liverpool is under increasing scrutiny after his side lost a one-goal lead to suffer defeat against Manchester City at Anfield.
Liverpool have now conceded four 90th minute winners in the Premier League this season, the most of any team.
The defeat leaves the Reds five points off Manchester United in fourth spot, with Slot potentially needing Champions League football to keep his job on Merseyside.
