Keith Wyness makes exciting Newcastle claim after being wowed by Amanda Staveley

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes Newcastle United and Aston Villa will challenge the Premier League’s “big four” over the next couple of years.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has admired the way Amanda Stavely and PIF have overseen matters since taking over at St James’ Park in 2021.

The Magpies finished fourth in the Premier League last season and are on course to secure European football again after a recent upturn in form has seen them jump up to sixth in the table.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire told Football Insider Newcastle will look to do business with Saudi Arabian clubs this summer after reports suggested the Saudi Pro League is ready to spend around £2billion on transfers.

The Tyneside club used their Middle Eastern links to sell Allan Saint-Maximin to Al-Ahli for £30million last summer.

Newcastle could benefit from increased transfer budget

Wyness believes Eddie Howe’s side have previously been wise with their spending as they now look set to potentially benefit from an increased transfer budget.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think it’s going to be great.

“They have proven that they can get it right a lot of the time and they have been quite wise on the spending.

“The Tonali issue is one they will have learned from again, so I think they are in a very good position.

“I have been a big admirer of the way that Amanda Staveley and her group have come in and taken things reasonably slowly but have delivered very good results over a period of time.

“I’ve got my eyes on Newcastle and Villa as being the two I think can really challenge the big four coming up over the next couple of years.”
