Keith Wyness names big names Aston Villa will sell to keep Morgan Rogers: ‘He’s on the brink of going’
Aston Villa could keep Morgan Rogers at the club next season if they manage to sell other star players.
That is according to ex-Aston Villa, Everton, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Rogers is the biggest asset that Aston Villa could sell in the summer transfer window.
The Midlands club have been restricted in the transfer market by financial rules in recent seasons, and that will continue to be the case this summer.
Aston Villa’s revenue will increase if they can qualify for the Champions League, and Unai Emery’s side currently occupy fourth place, five points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool.
Rogers has attracted interest from Premier League clubs, but Aston Villa would demand a big fee if they were to let the 23-year-old depart.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – lists a number of players who Aston Villa could sell this summer instead of Rogers.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that Emery still has to improve his squad ahead of next season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “When I looked at the squad, I started thinking about which players could be cut.
“There were a number of players that I think have still got some value that could be sold. I mean, I was going through Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez, the keeper, he’s been almost on the brink of going all the time as well.
“Leon Bailey, Emi Buendia, Jadon Sancho, Ross Barkley, all those players. I don’t think the Villa fans would be that upset to see any of those go.
“Now, of course, the big one is Morgan Rogers. Now, he’d be where the real money would be commanded. If they can put together sales for four or five of those that I mentioned, and that could be enough to just get them over the line, but they’ve also then got to improve the squad and there’s still some youth coming through.”
Man United rule out Emi Martinez move
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has told Football Insider that he believes Emi Martinez will leave Aston Villa this summer.
Man United held interest in Martinez last summer, but the arrival of Senne Lammens means they do not need to sign another goalkeeper.
Martinez is expected to have further interest from European clubs, and Saudi Arabia could also make a bid to sign the 33-year-old.
