Keith Wyness reacts as Everton wrap up new stadium deal

Everton are closing in on their move to the state-of-the-art Bramley Moore Dock stadium in the 2025-26 campaign.

The Toffees have held their second test event with a capacity of only 25,000 – and have now agreed a deal to bring rugby to the new ground later this year.

It has been confirmed that the stadium will host the second test between England and Australia on 1 November – with tickets already on sale.

Everton will hold another test event with a close-to-capacity crowd ahead of the full move before next season starts.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed how much his old side could bank after agreeing the rugby deal.

Everton rugby deal will bring in just £500,000, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness claimed the event will bring in just £500,000 if everything goes well.

However, he claimed the benefit will be in showcasing the stadium to the world and getting another opportunity to test the facilities and surrounding infrastructure.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s a nice event to get.

“Particularly because it will be another quasi-test event.

“It’s another chance to test transport and facilities at the stadium.

“What’s it going to be worth? I think there’ll be a small fee for renting the stadium – probably around £150,000.

“Then there’ll be a share of the food and beverage revenue from the event, so we’re looking at up to £500,000 if it goes well.

“The main value will be in testing the stadium and showcasing it on the global stage.

“It’s a nice event to have and it will show the stadium performing well.”

Everton could land Belgium star for £20m this summer

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed (30 March) that Genoa are happy to sell Koni De Winter this summer amid interest from Everton and other Premier League sides.

Everton are set to be in the market for a centre-back with Michael Keane out of contract in June – and regardless of whether Jarrad Branthwaite does leave the club for big money, reinforcements will be needed.

Serie A side Genoa are likely to accept between £20–25million for the Belgium international defender.
