Keith Wyness ‘really worried’ by Angus Kinnear latest from Everton

Everton have already wrapped up the appointment of their next CEO with Angus Kinnear set to join from Leeds next month.

The Toffees have been without a permanent CEO since Denise Barrett-Baxendale’s resignation in the summer of 2023, with Colin Chong taking on the role on an interim basis.

Kinnear continues to be involved at Leeds despite their promotion and has been spotted in the stands at Elland Road in recent weeks.

He has been with the Whites since 2017 after spells with West Ham and Arsenal as managing director and director of marketing respectively.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has shared a “really worrying” verdict on Kinnear’s appointment.

Kinnear development ‘doesn’t seem right’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he has “no idea” why Kinnear still has a “leg in each camp” ahead of his Everton move.

Leeds have secured promotion to the Premier League and will be a direct rival for the Merseysiders next season.

Wyness claimed it “doesn’t seem right” that Kinnear could be privy to plans at both clubs for the 2025-26 campaign.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The speed of these hires and getting the new team in place is really worrying me.

“Angus Kinnear, the new CEO, doesn’t come in until the 1st of June – so we’ve got the whole of May yet.

“There’s no doubt he’s doing stuff in the background.

“But Leeds have been promoted, I’ve got no idea why he hasn’t left.

“You can’t have a leg in each camp. Leeds are a Premier League rival, but he’s got the whole of May to see who’s planning what in each team.

“That doesn’t seem right.

“He could at least go on gardening leave from Leeds, then he can focus on Everton privately.

“To me, it’s a very unsatisfactory situation.”

Keane to land new Everton contract?

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (29 April) that James Tarkowski’s injury will not have an impact on Michael Keane’s future at Everton.

Keane, 32, is out of contract on Merseyside in June – potentially ending his eight-year spell at the club.

Tarkowski could miss the start of the 2025-26 season after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury – but that twist is unlikely to mean a reprieve for Keane at Everton.

The former England international is set to be let go as a free agent, while Moyes’ side plan to delve into the transfer market for defensive reinforcements this summer.
