Keith Wyness reveals his ‘big concern’ about Wolves after dramatic twist
Wolves’ ownership should take accountability for the club’s poor form on the pitch this season.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is not confident that the club will be able to rebuild in the Championship.
Wolves fans want Fosun to sell the club, whilst executive chairman Jeff Shi has been sacked from his position.
The Old Gold sit bottom of the Premier League table, with manager Rob Edwards facing the threat of the sack if their poor form continues.
Wolves have ‘many issues’ amid Premier League relegation
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Wolves‘ on-pitch problems stem from the summer transfer window.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has a “big concern” about Wolves if they are relegated to the Championship.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think there’ll be many tears shed about Jeff going because I think the Wolves fans did target him certainly as the cause of many of issues, but I think Fosun themselves have got to be looked at as poor owners in that sense.
“And it’s looking like Wolves, while they had a few good years, things were well with [Jorge] Mendes. He brought them some good players, and they sold them on and did pretty well. They never replaced them effectively. And it’s turning into, unfortunately, another car crash in terms of Chinese ownership.
“So it’s unfortunate for Wolves fans, because I think they could have easily strengthened the squad enough to have maintained a Premier League challenge. If you remember last season, they had a poor start but then rallied. There just isn’t the strength in the squad to rally this season, that’s for sure.
“So look, it’s going to be a difficult, complicated process to change the squad to be in the Championship, and there isn’t the experience behind the scenes to do it. That’s my big concern.”

Wolves set price tag on midfield star
Wolves are set for a big overhaul of players if they are relegated, with the club potentially losing stars in the January window.
The club is braced for Man United’s pursuit of midfielder Joao Gomes, with £50million expected to be enough to sign the 24-year-old.
Striker Jorgen Strand Larsen could also depart, with West Ham interested in the Norwegian, who was heavily targeted by Newcastle in the summer window.
