Keith Wyness reveals when Newcastle will announce stadium plans – ‘I’m hearing’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed Newcastle are likely to announce their stadium redevelopment plans at the start of 2025.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Magpies chiefs may be pushing for government funding for the project in the meantime.
St James’ Park currently holds 52,000 but has been earmarked for improvement by the club’s ambitious Saudi Arabian ownership.
Newcastle have conducted a stadium feasibility study, potentially paving the way for development next year.
A redevelopment of the existing structure is under consideration while moving to a new location has not yet been ruled out.
Newcastle set to announce stadium plans in January 2025, says Wyness
Wyness hopes the final decision will “impact Newcastle for a long time going forward”.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s going to be early in the new year, that’s what I’m hearing.
“They’re doing some last-minute evaluations of the studies that have been done.
“The chairman of Newcastle and governor of PIF will make the final decision, which we can expect probably towards the end of January.

“There may be some arm-wrestling about getting subsidies for this, some talks with the British government – depending on the scale of the project.
“That may be the reason for the delay. But it’s a big decision. New stadium or big redevelopment, I just hope it is a decision that will impact Newcastle for a long time going forward.”
