Keith Wyness shares ‘exclusive’ Everton takeover update

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has made it clear that John Textor has no say in what happens at Everton currently despite his exclusivity to purchase a stake of the football club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – also pointed out there must be no conflict of interest for Textor with Everton and Crystal Palace.

The American has entered a period of exclusivity to buy Farhad Mosiri’s 94.1-per-cent stake at Goodison Park, but with Palace being one of the four teams Eagle Football Holdings owns shares there is some confusion.

Textor must ensure there is no crossover in his involvement with either club right now while he’s pursuing his option at Everton.

Everton will not be influenced by Textor until any deal is complete

The former Everton CEO highlighted that the situation would be serious if there was evidence Textor had any say in either club during this current period.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Although he has exclusive, he has no say whatsoever in Everton.

“He has no standing, no shareholding, and he’s not a stakeholder as such.

“What he has is an exclusive option to potentially purchase the club, but in those contracts, they’ve got to be very clear that he has absolutely zero say until that deal is executed.

“It’s very important that he can clarify that point.

“The Premier League will be all over that, and you can imagine particularly if Everton have to play Palace, his position would be quite untenable if there was any evidence at all that he had a say in each camp.

“Or if he was even talking to people like Sean Dyche or Kevin Thelwell about potential players.

“It’s got to be clear that there’s a huge Chinese wall, an impenetrable Chinese wall that is there that he cannot breach while he’s in this period.”
