Keith Wyness shares verdict on Aston Villa fans revolt after ticket price hike

Aston Villa have chosen to raise ticket prices at Villa Park just days after missing out on Champions League football.

The Midlands giants have confirmed season ticket and match-by-match prices for adults will rise by 5% for the 2025-26 campaign.

Unai Emery‘s side finished outside the top five on goal difference in the 2024-25 season and will play Europa League football next season.

They have struggled to comply with financial rules in recent years and could yet again sell key players this summer to balance the books.

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on how fans could react to the price increases.

‘Every penny counts for Aston Villa’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects Aston Villa fans to “take the increases well” as they can see progress on the pitch.

Villa reached the Champions League quarter-final in the 2024-25 campaign – just six years after their return to the top flight in the play-off final.

Wyness insisted there is “no game-changer” for the club as they look to boost revenue.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s really crucial right now for Villa to increase their revenue.

“They are right on the border with PSR. They hoped to make it into the Champions League but had a cruel blow there, getting so close but so far.

“Every penny counts at Villa right now and they’ve got to balance up the numbers.

“I think the Villa fans are open to increases because they can see improvement on the pitch.

“They have seen their club take real strides. I don’t think you’re going to get the backlash you could get at other clubs.

“Every penny counts because Villa have got limited ways to improve their numbers.

“They are trying to do the North Stand development, they’re putting things around the ground, improving the stations – but there is no game-changer in terms of revenue.

“I think the fans are going to take these increases well. They trust the management, they trust Unai Emery and they have an exciting season ahead.”

Aston Villa set sights on two goalkeepers

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (4 June) that Aston Villa are ready to rebuild their goalkeeping department with two new signings this summer.

Robin Olsen has already left the club on a free transfer, while Emiliano Martinez is expected to depart after five years at Villa Park.

Villa are smart operators under transfer guru Monchi and have lined up an extensive list of targets to replace the World Cup winner.
