Keith Wyness shocked by Man United manager twist

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has been shocked by the latest managerial twists as Man United make new manager move.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed there are “more shoes to drop” before the right man to take United forward emerges.

Football Insider revealed earlier this month (11 May) that Ten Hag is expected to be sacked by Man United even if his side beat Man City in this week’s (25 May) FA Cup final.

It is believed new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS outfit are unhappy with a “disastrous” 2023-24 campaign which saw them record their lowest-ever Premier League finish.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (20 May) that Man United will contact Ipswich about former coach Kieran McKenna as they step up plans to replace Ten Hag.

Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Roberto de Zerbi have also been widely linked with the role.

Man United could struggle to replace Ten Hag, says Wyness

Wyness claimed Ratcliffe’s footballing vision will be key in the appointment of a new manager and the subsequent changes to the playing squad at Old Trafford.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think the whole managerial merry-go-round has surprised a lot of people.

“Arne Slot to Liverpool was pretty well-telegraphed, but I didn’t expect Roberto De Zerbi to leave Brighton.

“That was a surprise to me.

“Thomas Tuchel, there was a U-turn and everyone thought he would stay at Bayern, but all of a sudden – he’s leaving.

“Could he be a candidate? Potentially.

“I think there has to be a few more shoes to drop yet to make it clear.

“It’s a difficult job, there have been a few big names who have been overshadowed by the club.

“Again, the Ratcliffe opinion on how they’re going to handle the football side will be key.

“They’ve got to have a manager and a squad to fit that vision.

“There has to be a lot of change, and it’s still not clear who can come into this role. There’s no one that springs to mind as the obvious fit for United.”

In other news, 26-year-old could now quit Man United.
