Keith Wyness shreds Beto and Everton teammate after what he’s seen
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Beto and Youssef Chermiti are not good enough to replace Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted a new signing would be needed if Calvert-Lewin departs.
Portuguese striker duo Beto and Chermiti arrived from Udinese and Sporting CP respectively last summer (2023) but struggled in their maiden Premier League campaign.
The pair combined for just five goals in the 2023-24 season – with Beto, 26, scoring all five and Chermiti, 20, playing just 192 minutes of top-flight action.
Everton face potential player sales this summer in a bid to rectify their perilous financial situation and avoid further points deductions.
As such, 2023-24 top scorer Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a potential move to Newcastle in the upcoming summer window, which opens on 14 June.
Wyness disappointed with Everton duo Beto and Chermiti
Wyness insisted Beto and Chermiti don’t have the “quality” to lead the line in the Premier League at this time.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I have to say Everton haven’t got the backup signings right yet.
“There are two backup strikers at the club right now, Beto and Chermiti – neither have really performed at the high quality you need to lead the line and become the regular.

“Chermiti has promise but hasn’t done it yet. Beto hasn’t hit the ground running as a possible replacement for Calvert-Lewin.
“We’d need another player through the door if Calvert-Lewin does go.”
