Keith Wyness taken aback by what Scottish journalist told him about Wilfried Nancy and Celtic
Wilfried Nancy is continuing to do himself no favours at Celtic after what he has said since he joined the club.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen, Aston Villa, and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ahead of Celtic‘s Glasgow derby clash with rivals Rangers.
Celtic’s 2-0 defeat at Motherwell continued Nancy’s poor start to life at the club, with the Hoops remaining three points behind league leaders Hearts in the Scottish Premiership table.
Nancy remains under threat of the Celtic sack, with the Frenchman having lost five of his first seven games in all competitions.
‘Only results can bail out’ Wilfried Nancy at Celtic
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – was shocked to hear what Nancy said after he joined Celtic.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes the Glasgow derby is an important fixture for the 48-year-old’s future.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “These are the games that change your whole situation as a manager coming in.
“Now, there’s a journalist I rate very highly called Michael Grant, who actually is from Aberdeen originally, but he writes for The Times. And today, he put what he thought was one of his potential bids for quote of the year from Wilfred Nancy who said, yes, he understood when he was coming that he knew a lot about Scottish football because as a player he’d almost signed for Carlisle.
“Now that could be something, if it’s true, and I believe Michael wouldn’t have put it forward if it wasn’t true, that’s the sort of thing you just don’t say in Glasgow. And believe me, only results can bail you out of those sorts of situations.”

Celtic set to lose defender in January window
Celtic fans were left unimpressed with Nancy’s comments after his side’s loss at Motherwell, claiming that the result was “not a surprise.”
The January window will be an important one for Nancy, with the supporters putting pressure on the board to back the manager in the transfer market.
Celtic’s first piece of business could be to sign a new defender, after it emerged that Man City plan on recalling Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from his loan spell in Glasgow.
