Keith Wyness tears into Rangers as Connor Barron news emerges

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has slammed the “ridiculous” wait for compensation from Rangers for midfielder Connor Barron.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Dons are not a big enough club to do without the money.

Rangers signed Barron on a four-year contract in June after his Aberdeen contract came to an end.

However, the clubs could not agree on a development fee for the 22-year-old, who had been at Pittodrie since the age of eight.

The disagreement prompted a Scottish Professional Football League tribunal, which is yet to reach a conclusion – prompting criticism from Aberdeen’s chief executive Alan Burrows at the club’s AGM.

Barron has made 27 appearances across all competitions for Rangers so far in the 2024-25 campaign.

Rangers-Aberdeen compensation wait is ‘ridiculous’, says Wyness

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s ridiculous.

“It’s gone on way too long, it should’ve been done within six weeks.

“There’s a young player involved, too. It may be messing with his head.

“The SFA and the Scottish Premiership have got to get together and resolve this as soon as possible.

“Aberdeen are not a club who are awash with money. They need it as soon as possible, and they need to be protected when they’re bringing young talents through.”
