Keith Wyness: This is when Andy Robertson will move from Liverpool to Celtic
Andy Robertson has been linked with a Liverpool exit over recent months with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
However, the 31-year-old has now started the last three games for Arne Slot’s side, after winning his place in the team back from summer signing Milos Kerkez.
Celtic are interested in Robertson, and would be one of the sides in the race to sign the Scot if he became available at the end of the season.
The left-back is now into his ninth campaign at Liverpool, after joining from Hull City in the summer of 2017.

Liverpool will extend Andy Robertson’s contract
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Robertson will eventually join Celtic, but not this summer.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed that Liverpool have a one-year extension clause in the Scotland international’s contract, and will likely trigger that option at the end of the season.
Wyness added he expects Robertson to complete a Celtic move at the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign instead.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I believe Liverpool have got an option to extend Robertson’s contract for another year.
“I think probably even as recently as maybe two or three weeks ago, the Celtic deal might have been progressing. Now I think Liverpool realise they need him, and they need him for another season.
“They need to get this stability. They need him in the dressing room to be there as a stabilising influence. He’s a very important influence in Liverpool, from all I understand.
“I think Liverpool may well extend that extra year. After that, I would expect him to go to Celtic. And I think that would be a great move for him. He’d enjoy coming back to Scotland.
“But yes, we may see Liverpool take up that option, extend for another year because of their own problems that they’ve got, because he’s got a lot still to offer Liverpool, and I think Celtic may have to wait.”
Martin O’Neill could be set for Celtic exit
Meanwhile, Martin O’Neill’s interim spell in charge of Celtic could be ended after a development over the weekend, sources have told Football Insider.

The 73-year-old took temporary charge of the Glasgow giants following Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation last month.
However, Columbus Crew manager Wilfried Nancy is now available to join Celtic immediately after his side were dumped out of the MLS play-offs.
Sources say that Nancy is now one of the two frontrunners for the job, along with Bodo/Glimt boss Kjetil Knutsen.
