Keith Wyness: Wolves making ‘big mistake’ by sacking Rob Edwards

Wolves should not consider sacking manager Rob Edwards despite their form not improving under the 43-year-old.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Edwards was appointed with a view of managing them in the Championship.

Wolves’ 1-1 draw at Man United earned the Old Gold just their third Premier League point of the season, and their first under Edwards.

Edwards’ winless run at Wolves has put him under threat of the sack, having only replaced previous boss Vitor Pereira in November.

Wolves could be making ‘another big mistake’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes more “turmoil” has broke out at Wolves since the sacking of chairman Jeff Shi.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the ownership must stick by Edwards this season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, look, the turmoil at Wolves, I think, is getting even worse now. Rob Edwards came under Jeff Shi before he left as chairman and chief executive. And now we have Nathan Shi, who’s come in, who has no football experience.

“But I think Rob Edwards, when he came, was probably told that we think we’re going to go down, but we’d like you to stay and rebuild in the Championship. Now whether the new regime will keep to that word is yet to be seen.

“There’s been a lot of rumours in the last few days about Rob getting the sack as well. And that would be another big mistake for Wolves if they did that.”

Wolves targeting Scotland striker

Wolves are preparing to lose striker Jorgen Strand Larsen either in the January or summer transfer window.

Hibernian striker Kieron Bowie is a target for Wolves amid their need to sign a new forward, with the 23-year-old having impressed in the Scottish Premiership.

The Scotland international has six goals and three assists in 18 league appearances this season, with Hibs sitting fifth in the division.
