Kemar Roofe makes admission about Leeds

By Matt Farr

Leeds attacker Kemar Roofe has made the bold claim that the club can finish in the top two this season and win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Garry Monk’s side have been very impressive this season, and find themselves fifth place after 23 games, having won their last three games.

With just two defeats in their last 10 games, Leeds have emerged as genuine promotion candidates, and Monk’s side are high on confidence.

Roofe, who has contributed three goals and five assists from 27 appearances in all competitions, believes a top-two finish is a realistic prospect for the club.

Newcastle are currently second in the Championship table, and eight points separates them from Leeds.

When asked about their chances of sealing automatic promotion, Roofe told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “Of course. Why not? If we keep winning week-in, week-out we’ll see where we get to and claw the teams above us down.

“It’s calm (in the dressing room). We’re silently confident but obviously we go game by game, we don’t get carried away and we concentrate on ourselves.

“When you start look at other teams and start looking up the table I think that’s when you start struggling, but I know as long as we look after ourselves we’ll be alright.”

Leeds can further reinforce their bid for automatic promotion with a victory over promotion rivals Aston Villa on Thursday.

Monk’s side took the spoils the last time the two sides met, but Villa have made great improvements under Steve Bruce and will provide a stern test.

Leeds then face the Championship’s bottom-side, Rotherham, on Monday, in a game where three points will be the minimum requirement.
