Kenny backs Newcastle to hand new three-year deal to 'amazing' Bruce amid newspaper reveal

Steve Bruce has done an “amazing job” at Newcastle United and would be good value for a new contract.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 60-year-old Magpies boss.

The Daily Star reported on 30th July that Mike Ashley is set to hand Bruce a new three-year deal as reward for keeping Newcastle in the top-flight.

They finished 12th in the Premier League last term in Bruce’s second campaign at the helm.

The St James’ Park faithful, however, have not warmed to the former Sunderland boss.

But Kenny claims that Bruce fully deserves a new deal and that he could feature in Newcastle’s plans after a possible Saudi PIF-led takeover.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It’s a strange one because he’s trying to get the sale of the club through.

“Unless the owners want to keep Bruce as well, that could be one explanation.

But for me, Bruce has had it tough at Newcastle. They have had so many injuries.

“You could see that when they got their squad together later in the season, they started to get results and go further up the table.

“Personally, I think he’s done an amazing job at Newcastle. He got some great results.

“I don’t know why the fans are furious. I know they don’t want Ashley there but I think Bruce has done a good job with the cards he’s been dealt.”
