Kenny excited by ‘clever’ Man United move as ‘world-class’ manager lined up

Paddy Kenny insists Man United have been clever amid reports they are set to announce Ralf Rangnick as their new interim manager.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Red Devils have made the right decision.

A Man United source has told Football Insider the club have reached an agreement with Rangnick, 63, to take over as interim manager.

The German will take on a consultancy role at the club when his contract as manager ends at the end of the season.

Kenny insists Rangnick will instantly command respect from his new players.

“If they can’t get anyone now, this is the way to go,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He comes with a great reputation so why not get him in? I think it’s a clever move from Man United.

“It gives them the chance to not rush a permanent appointment and appoint a world-class manager next summer.

“A lot can change in a few months. Managers can get sacked. You just don’t know what will happen, doors can be opened.

“Obviously there is a lot of talk about other managers coming at the end of the season so it was always going to be an interim.

“I think it’s clever, as I said, he comes with a great reputation and he commands respect.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how he does.”

Michael Carrick will remain in charge for Sunday’s clash against Chelsea.

He won his first game as interim boss as the Red Devils beat Villarreal 2-0 on Tuesday night.
