Kevin De Bruyne: Man City contract update after new injury blow – sources

Kevin De Bruyne’s new injury will have no bearing on his Man City contract negotiations, sources have told Football Insider.

City have previously put talks on the backburner with the 33-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of this season, due to his mixed fitness record.

De Bruyne has missed the last three games with a thigh injury which forced him off at half-time against Inter Milan earlier this month.

Pep Guardiola has spoken out about the issue, claiming he “doesn’t know” if the Belgium international will be back before the international break in October.

Sources say that the playmaker’s injury is not “serious” and will not affect City’s willingness to tie him down to a new deal.

Injuries have played a big role for De Bruyne and the English champions in the last 18 months, with the midfielder missing the first half of the 2023-24 campaign with a serious hamstring problem.

De Bruyne has made six appearances this term, notching one goal and one assist.

The 33-year-old joined City nine years ago and has won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and one Champions League trophy.

Man City

Man City have been left reeling by a serious knee injury for Rodri, who will miss the rest of the 2024-25 campaign.

Guardiola’s side sit second in the table behind Liverpool after drawing 1-1 against Newcastle on Saturday (28 September).

In other news, City told to pay “£70million” to complete midfielder deal.
