Kevin Phillips makes 'surprise' claim after Rangers finalise Sakala signing
Rangers fans left unimpressed with the signing of Fashion Sakala should trust Steven Gerrard’s judgement.
That’s according to Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Rangers’ transfer business.
Last week, Rangers announced the pre-contract signing of Sakala from Belgian side KV Oostende.
🆕 Welcome Sakala 🆕
📝 #RangersFC are today delighted to announce that a pre-contract has been agreed with Fashion Sakala, and he will join from Belgian side KV Oostende in the summer-subject to international clearance and a work permit being received.

Sakala, 24, is the club’s joint-top scorer this season with 13 goals in the Belgian first division.
He mainly operates as a centre forward but is able to play on both flanks, similarly to Kemar Roofe.
Rangers have had success in their previous recruitments from the Jupiler Pro League in Roofe and Ianis Hagi.

Phillips claims the capture of Sakala won’t excite fans but told the Gers faithful to trust Gerrard’s judgement.
When asked if Rangers fans will be excited by the arrival of Sakala, Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, “No, I wouldn’t think so.
“At the end of the day, they need to back Steven Gerrard’s decision making and they have done that before.
“His judgement, his recruitment departed, they haven’t done a lot wrong since he went to Rangers.
“The fans might be surprised but some might be excited as well. He can come and be a success, let’s see how it goes.”
Sakala joins Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe as potential striking options at Ibrox.
The Gers are next in action on Wednesday when they travel to the Tony Macaroni Stadium to face Livingston.
