‘Kevin Thelwell Everton contract update since Friedkin takeover’
Everton fans have been given an update on the future of Kevin Thelwell at the club with the Director of Football’s contract running down, via The Athletic.
There has been plenty of change since American company The Friedkin Group completed their Everton takeover from Farhad Moshiri back in December last year.
David Moyes has already returned to Goodison Park to replace Sean Dyche as manager, and has taken ten point from five Premier League games to steer the club clear of the relegation zone.
The Friedkins have also taken action off the pitch as they look to put Everton back on a more stable financial footing.
One issue that is still yet to be resolved though is the future of Thelwell himself, and it appears that will remain the case for the time being.
Kevin Thelwell contract revelation emerges at Everton
Thelwell has been in the role of Director of Football at Goodison Park for almost three years, having joined from MLS side New York Red Bulls at the end of February 2022.
His contract with Everton is now due to expire at the end of the current campaign, and it is unclear if he will sign a new one.
According to The Athletic, Thelwell is still yet to be offered a new contract by the club, and those around him claim it is yet to be decided what his future holds.
Indeed, it is noted that there are still questions about what will happen to the Director of Football role in general at Everton going forward.
As a result, the next few months will be significant when it comes to the future not just of Thelwell, but also the make-up of the structure behind-the-scenes at Everton.
David Moyes will want Kevin Thelwell clarity
Football Insider Verdict
It is worth noting that the Director of Football has had to work during a tough period for the club with the financial issues that have hung over them.
That has led to some praising Thelwell for the way he ran Everton during a tricky time in which their Premier League status, and potentially more, was under threat.
On the flip side, Toffees fans may be less convinced by him after a difficult January transfer window were only midfielder Charly Alcaraz was signed.
That was despite injuries to the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin seemingly highlighting the need for Everton to strengthen in attack.

As a result there may be mixed views on what the future should hold for Thelwell on Merseyside beyond the end of this season.
The summer transfer window though will be an important one for Moyes ahead of his first full season back in charge of the Toffees.
He therefore will want to know what if Thelwell, and the Director of Football role, is set to stay at Everton, then he can start putting preparations in place for the market as soon as possible.
