Kevin Thelwell will jet out for Everton talks with Serie A club – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he can’t see the club doing big January business in Serie A despite their imminent partnership with AS Roma.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed director of football Kevin Thelwell will have a pre-existing list of targets for the window after collaborating with manager Sean Dyche.

Everton and Roma are set to become intertwined with The Friedkin Group poised to take full control on Merseyside after a takeover.

Friedkin has been in charge in the Italian capital since 2020 and won the Europa Conference League at the club in the 2021-22 campaign.

Everton raiding Italy in January is not likely, says Wyness

Wyness insisted he expects the two clubs to swap data and work together in the transfer market going forward.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There’s no doubt that Friedkin’s deal will mean Everton and Roma will become football brothers, there’ll be some swapping of data.

“Kevin Thelwell will have to fly out and go and meet his opposite number and they’ll have to review each other’s systems.

“That would be one benefit Friedkin will want, and it makes sense to have that synergy.

“I think a lot of the talk right now is just journalists putting two and two together to make five with the connections out in Italy pretty obvious.

“Thelwell will have his list of players for January – and that will come with input from Dyche as well.

“If any players are coming in January, I don’t think there will be any from Italy – unless something outstanding becomes available.”
