Kieran Maguire accuses Premier League clubs of ‘scaremongering’ as Liverpool plan revealed
Liverpool have avoided the counteroffensive against independent regulation but many other Premier League teams are using “scaremongering” tactics.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about a potential Fifa investigation into the political interference of an independent regulator.
Football Insider sources revealed last month (23 February) that Liverpool and the rest of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ have decided to take a backseat and avoid the campaign against regulation.

The big six were involved in the Super League plans back in 2021 and the new government-backed regulator has been granted access to stop clubs from joining breakaway leagues.
However, the Daily Mail report (27 February) that Fifa are now set to investigate the regulator plans amid concerns that it could clash with their political interference policies.
Maguire predicts that Fifa will have no issues with the plans and that Premier League clubs are simply doing all they can to reduce the powers of the independent regulator.
“I don’t anticipate an issue with Fifa and the independent regulator,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Because there’s no evidence of party political interference in terms of the operational activities of the Premier League.
“I think there’s an element of scaremongering being deliberately put out by clubs who are opposed to the regulator.

“There is little evidence of conflict but the opponents of the regulator are using lobbying groups and all opportunities to try to dilute the powers of the regulator.
“They’re also lobbying against the regulator or the regulator proposals crystallising into something real.”
