Kieran Maguire backs Declan Rice to solve £171m West Ham problem
West Ham owe other clubs £171million in transfer payments but the sale of Declan Rice this summer will allow them to continue spending in the transfer market.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the amount owed by West Ham is ‘expected’ for a Premier League club.
The Hammers published their 2022/23 report this month, revealing turnover of £236.7million and an overall loss of £18.3million.

As revealed by Football Insider, West Ham’s report also revealed that they owe £171million in transfer payables to other clubs.
It follows a busy summer window at the London Stadium which saw a club-record £183.9million invested into the first-team squad.
Maguire believes that Rice’s £105million move to Arsenal will allow the Irons to cover the costs while continuing to spend in the transfer market.
“The vast majority of transfers in modern football, especially at the Premier League level, are on credit terms,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“The fact that West Ham owe £171million to other clubs in respect of outstanding fees is to be expected.
“Equally, they are owed some money in respect of player sales, although this is considerably lower.

“But the sale of Declan Rice and the instalments that they will generate on the back of that will ensure that West Ham can keep up on the payments.
“Their previous forays into the transfer market have built up credit but Rice’s sale will give them enough cash flow to cover costs.“
