Kieran Maguire cites Daniel Levy as Tottenham fan outrage revealed

Tottenham are ‘exploiting’ matchday fans for an extra £3million by increasing matchday ticket prices this season.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ decision to raise ticket prices this summer.

As reported by The Independent, the North London club faced a fan protest ahead of their Premier League clash against Manchester United last week because of rising ticket prices.

Season ticket prices were frozen by the club for a second consecutive year, but the costs of individual matchday tickets rose.

The most expensive ticket at Tottenham this season now sits at £103 for fans.

Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust criticised the club for the decision, adding that it would only inflate the club’s revenues by 0.6 per cent this season.

Maguire believes the price rise indicates that Tottenham remain focused on generating revenue as opposed to improving performances on the pitch.

Daniel Levy will have seen the prices charged by Beyonce and other performers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the course of the summer and will want to copy that,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

Matchday tickets are a big opportunity given that Spurs have a large international fanbase, many of which only get to see one or two matches a season.

It won’t make a huge difference over the course of the season, probably in the region of £2.5-£3million, which for a club of Spurs’ stature is not significant.

Therefore, exploiting them in terms of enhanced prices is indicative of the focus at Spurs.

Attention is focused on breaking even and being the most profitable club in Premier League history instead of what is happening on the pitch.”
