Kieran Maguire drops Henderson claim after £82m Liverpool player deal agreed

Jordan Henderson’s imminent move from Liverpool to Saudi Arabia is a ‘big loss’ for the Premier League and the PFA.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Henderson’s controversial move.

As revealed by Football Insider, Henderson is set to finalise a £10million move to Saudi club Al Ettifaq after a breakthrough in talks.

The Liverpool captain is set to reunite with manager Steven Gerrard in the Middle East and is set to earn a staggering £700,000 per week in his new contract across two years, amounting to £82m in total.

However, the 33-year-old midfielder has faced criticism over the move after frequently speaking out about homophobia and societal issues during his time as a footballer.

Ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher warned Henderson he would face criticism if he moved to Saudi Arabia, where homosexuality is still considered illegal.

Maguire believes Henderson is a ‘big loss’, but hopes other players in football will step up to voice concerns and issues in a similar way.

Jordan Henderson has been eloquent and measured in his comments in highlighting some of the problems around modern football,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

It will be a big loss for the Premier League and the PFA as he was somebody who was articulate and could express the wrongs in football.

Having said that, there are many other players of equal stature who can go out and communicate concerns about issues in and around the game.

I’m sure those players will step up in Henderson’s absence and their voices will be heard.
