Kieran Maguire drops ‘huge’ £1billion prediction – ‘great news for Liverpool’

It is ‘great’ for Liverpool if Uefa are able to double their commercial revenue to £1billion by 2027.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Uefa’s search for global sponsorship partners.

As reported by SportBusiness, Uefa are inviting offers from automotive and gambling brands for its global sponsorship rights between 2024 and 2027.

Uefa reported commercial income of £470million in their latest 2021/22 accounts release.

With the constant threat of the European Super League looming in the background, Uefa have pushed to increase their commercial revenues and remain the dominant football organisation in Europe.

The Champions League remains a pivotal source of income for clubs around Europe, with Liverpool banking £89.2million last season for reaching the tournament’s final.

Maguire believes Uefa could double their commercial income by 2027, which would provide big financial benefits to clubs such as Liverpool who have been successful in Europe.

Uefa generated around £500million in commercial rights in the most recent financial year with the expansion of the Champions League and the urgency of making sure that an abomination such as the Super League does not rise again.

“There will be a lot of pressure put on the commercial department to increase revenues once again, but there is no reason why they can’t make huge progress and double it by the end of 2027.

The reason for that is the switch to a Swiss-style model increases the number of games – we’ll have to see whether it increases the amount of jeopardy and uncertainty as far as the competition is concerned.

But Liverpool are one of the giants of European football and they are a very attractive proposition when playing in Uefa competitions.

This can only be great news for Liverpool and the budget masters at Anfield.
