Kieran Maguire makes ‘desperate’ Liverpool claim as new Anfield deadline revealed

It was ‘practical’ and ‘desirable’ for Liverpool to agree a deal to appoint new contractors to complete their Anfield Road expansion.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Liverpool fans being ‘desperate’ for the project to be completed.

Liverpool published a club statement on Thursday (7 September) announcing that they have appointed new contractors to finish their Anfield expansion.

Rayner Rowen Construction are now scheduled to complete the project after the Buckingham Group halted progress by filing for administration.

Sources told Football Insider on Friday that the new stand isn’t expected to be open in full capacity to fans until December.

The expansion is set to grow Anfield’s capacity to 61,000, but the club will be forced to reduce capacity to around 50,000 until its phased opening begins in October.

Maguire insists any decision that accelerated the stand being opened will be welcomed by Liverpool and its fanbase.

Liverpool’s fan base will be desperate for an expanded Anfield to be completed,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

They want to see their beloved team and anything which helps to accelerate the delivery of the enhanced stadium will be welcomed.

Therefore, Liverpool have made a practical as well as a desirable decision to appoint new contractors with a view to having the stadium open for as many fans as possible.

That includes, of course, the prawn sandwich-munching hospitality fans who make all of the difference as far as overall matchday revenues are concerned.
