Kieran Maguire: Man City handed ‘golden opportunity’ after confirmed development
Man City have a ‘golden opportunity’ to expand their fanbase and reputation in the United States during the 2025 Club World Cup.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that City will be planning to solidify their status as a leading global football brand.
Fifa announced on June 23 that the United States had been selected as the host nation for the 2025 Club World Cup.
The 2025 tournament will be the first of its kind to follow the new 32-team format, which will follow an identical schedule to the current international World Cup structure.
The 2025 competition will be played throughout June and July and will include 12 clubs represented by Uefa, including City.
Pep Guardiola’s side have already qualified for both the 2023 tournament in Saudi Arabia and the newly-formatted 2025 tournament after their Champions League success last season.
Maguire believes the Club World Cup will give City a chance to further expand their US fanbase after already making connections with the MLS through the City Football Group.
“The 32-team Club World Cup in 2025 will likely include some of the biggest football brands from all over the world,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Man City, on the back of winning the Champions League in 2023, will be wanting to solidify their status and expand their reputation.

“They already have links to the MLS and elsewhere through the City Football Group.
“But the Club World Cup will be a golden opportunity for them to increase the amount of awareness and try to develop a fan base in the United States.“
