Kieran Maguire: Man City have rivals 'worried' after £613m development

Kieran Maguire has claimed Premier League clubs will be “worried” after Man City posted record revenues for the 2021-22 campaign.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the football finance expert said the figures “further enhance City’s ability to compete in the transfer market.”

On 7 November, Man City announced their annual report for last season.

The Premier League champions boasted revenues of £613million and record profits of £41.7million, the latter being more than double the previous club record.

Maguire claimed Man City’s analytical approach to transfers is paying dividends.

“There will be lots of criticism from Man City’s detractors,” he told Football Insider.

“The strength of the club financially is going to further enhance their ability to compete in the transfer market over the next few years. This will be a worry for City’s rivals.

“The one thing City have been able to do on a regular basis is spend it and spend it well. They have been successful with their signings which means they do not have to replace the player in a year or two, something we have seen at Chelsea with [Romelu] Lukaku.

“The fewer errors you make the more money you save. City’s analytical approach is paying dividends.”

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently second in the Premier League table, two points behind league leaders Arsenal.

They have also qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League, where they will face RB Leipzig.
