Kieran Maguire: Man United are on the brink of amazing ‘£72m’ Marcus Rashford deal

Marcus Rashford’s £375,000-a-week contract offer is good value despite breaking potential wage caps at Man United.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about contract talks between the Red Devils and the 25-year-old forward.

As per the Daily Mail, Rashford is on the verge of becoming United’s highest earner with a long-term £375,000 per week deal being offered by the Manchester club.

United’s latest contract news contradicts reports earlier this year that suggested the club implemented a ‘Ronaldo rule’ that capped player wages at £200,000 per week.

Maguire believes Rashford’s deal is good value to Man United, despite it potentially costing the club £72million over the next four years.

I find these stories of Manchester United having a wage cap a bit difficult to have a lot of confidence in,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

Manchester United have always had wages under control – look at their most recent seasons.

It rose to 66 per cent in 2022. but I think it’s going to come down in 2022/23 because of Europe.

So as far as the Marcus Rashford deal is concerned, he was delivering for them last season.

He’s still young and attractive to other teams, so therefore United will want to secure the talent.

When clubs are looking at the cost of a player, they look at the total cost, which is the amortisation of the transfer fee, plus the wages.

How much is it going to cost for Marcus Rashford over the course of, let’s say the next four years, when he’s on £375,000 a week?

Man United

That’s £18million, £72million over four years.

“I don’t see this as being a bad move.
