Kieran Maguire: Man United takeover reaches ‘new stage’ with Glazers ‘pushing’ for deal
The Man United takeover process has reached an ‘auction stage’ with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim’s bids very close in value.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Glazer family are ‘pushing’ to increase the value of their sale.
The sale of the Red Devils has gone to a third round of bidding, with the Glazers still unsatisfied by the second bids submitted by both Ratcliffe and Jassim.
The Glazers have not ruled out staying on as owners at Old Trafford if their £5-6billion valuation isn’t met.
The bidding process is now expected to run past the end of the current season after the latest extension to the bidding phase.
Maguire believes Ratcliffe and Jassim are very close in their valuation of the club and therefore a third round of bidding was called to help the Glazers squeeze more money out of the two favourites.
“I think what we do see in relation to the bids is that both Jassim and Ratcliffe are fairly close in value,” Maguire told Football Insider.
“One party is not blowing the other out of the water and therefore we have effectively reached a new stage – an auction stage between two final bidders.

“The Glazers are trying to squeeze as much as possible out of them. They have not achieved their original asking price.
“They are sharing the price between six siblings, and so they will all be pushing towards getting the most out of the deal, and to do that required a third round of bidding.“
