Kieran Maguire: Man United transfer window ruined by ‘£900m’ Glazer reveal

The £900miliion in interest payments from the Glazers’ debt has had a knock-on effect on Man United in the transfer window.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about United’s limited budget due to the Glazers’ poor handling of the club.

The Red Devils released their Q3 financial results on Tuesday (27 June), which revealed the revenue during that period to be £170million.

The Manchester club have boosted their revenue guidance for fiscal 2023 to a record £635million.

However, United’s gross debt stands at a staggering £725million, with the Glazer family continuing to take dividends out of the club without investing.

Maguire revealed that United have paid £900million in interest payments alone during the Glazer’s ownership of the club, which has now had an effect on their transfer business.

The existence of such large debt 18 years after being acquired by the Glazer family is indicative that they have been happy for others to supply the investment into the club,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

With interest charges exceeding £900million during that period, it has had an impact on the ability of the club to compete in the transfer market.

There is no evidence that they are in a rush to sell the club either, which of course is going to have a knock-on effect in terms of transfers.

Man United

The Glazer family have been big winners from their ownership period of the club along with the accountants and the bankers.

It can be increasingly argued that the fans are certainly not in that bracket.
