Kieran Maguire: Man United well placed to land £50m windfall

Man United could boost their matchday income by around £50million if they addressed the many flaws at Old Trafford.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the increase in season ticket prices and the potential matchday revenue of the Red Devils.

Despite considering offers to sell the club, the Glazer family have decided to increase the price of season tickets at Old Trafford next season.

In a statement by the club, United revealed that the costs of season tickets will rise by five per cent for the 2023/24 season.

It is the first time in over a decade that prices have increased for Red Devils fans, with prices frozen for 11 years prior to this change.

United cited the ‘escalating cost of matchday delivery’ as their reasoning for the price hike, with the Premier League outfit claiming the cost of delivering matches has risen by 40 per cent in the past five years.

Maguire insists United could realistically boost their matchday income by as much as 50 per cent if they continue to increase the ‘quality and quantity’ of hospitality sales.

Man United, for all the criticism levelled at them, have only put up the price of season tickets once over the last decade – for the 2023/24 campaign,” Maguire told Football Insider.

United usually make somewhere in the region of £100-110m per year in matchday income and there is no reason they can’t increase that by 50 per cent.

“If they adopted a proper structure and addressed some of the many flaws in terms of what is offered at Old Trafford, then that figure would soar.

But this wouldn’t impress or benefit the hardcore United fans at Old Trafford from around Manchester and Stretford itself.

It would be aimed at tourist fans and prawn sandwich eaters because there will be an increase in quality and quantity of hospitality fans.
