Kieran Maguire: Newcastle could land deal worth 'tens of millions' after picture emerges
Newcastle United could earn “tens of millions” per year from a commercial deal including stadium naming rights and shirt sponsorship.
So says football finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the removal of Sports Direct signage from St. James’ Park last week.
On Wednesday, the club released an image of their stadium without Sports Direct branding.
Toon director Amanda Staveley revealed last month (11 November) that the club hope to seal new sponsorship deals “as fast as possible”.
According to The Telegraph‘s Sam Wallace (7 December), the Premier League are set to approve new rules which would allow commercial deals with companies linked to club’s owners at Wednesday’s meeting.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs how much the Magpies could earn from a new stadium naming rights deal, Maguire said:

“We have seen Man City’s deal with Eithad done at £20-25million-a-year.
“If you tie that in with the shirt sponsor, as we have seen at Brighton where both the shirt and stadium is sponsored by Amex, it can be worth even more.
“I think there will be a sizeable increase at Newcastle. They are a club who will be attractive to broadcasters which makes them more attractive to sponsors.
“I think we are talking about a deal in the tens of millions for the stadium which could be more if they tie in the shirt as well.”
