Kieran Maguire: Newcastle United distance themselves from Saudi with ‘fascinating’ new deal
Newcastle United have taken advantage of their position in the Champions League to expand their commercial portfolio in Europe and agree a surprise new deal.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Newcastle now have a ‘fascinating brand’ to attract new sponsors and partners.
Newcastle announced earlier this month (4 December) that they have struck a multi-year partnership deal with delivery provider InPost.

The Polish-based company becomes the club’s Official Parcel Collection and Delivery Service Partner.
As part of the deal, InPost are set to install multiple ‘Geordie lockers’, allowing fans to use St James’ Park as a point of delivery.
The partnership adds to Newcastle’s commercial portfolio which has continuously grown since their Saudi Arabian-backed takeover.
Maguire believes Newcastle’s qualification for European football has allowed the Tyneside club to grow off the pitch by targeting European markets.
“Yes, this looks to be a very smart deal by Newcastle,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“Having a diverse portfolio of sponsors is a way for Newcastle to show the rest of football that they’re not just having close relationships with Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.
“This deal proves that they are also very attractive in Europe and that their fascinating brand can strike fascinating deals.

“Eddie Howe has done an absolutely brilliant job with Dan Ashworth and the rest of the team there.
“European football is very attractive to European sponsors so it’s a logical meeting of minds and it shows that Newcastle are heading in one direction only.“
